Maybelline ColorSenstational Bold and Matte

It’s no secret that Maybelline is one of my most favourite drugstore brands, their mascaras are phenomenal and their lipsticks always are great quality with a wide variety of shades and formulas available.

The ColorSenstational range from Maybelline always keeps up with the trend or season being that matte, gloss or dark berry shades for winter. There are two newer formulas in the ColorSensational range – Bold and Matte.

The difference between the two formulas is purely that Bold much like its name is a deeply pigmented satin to matte finish shade whereas the Matte formula allows you to choose how intense you would like the shade – if you want a light application then you’d apply the lipstick and then blot it with a tissue, if you want a more intense application you can apply it in layers.

Both formulas are very silky and easy to on the lips, no need to worry about your lips becoming dry with either formula. They tend to last on the lips for about 4-5 hours before fading down, the darker shades tend to fade from the inside out which leaves the lips with a ‘line’ around the edges so a reapplication is needed with these.

I have four shades that I tried out:

Midnight Merlot matte – True to its name the shade of this lipstick resembles a glass of merlot with rich warm red, burgundy hues. Being of the matte formula this is one that can be built up or sheered down depending on what you feel like on the day.

Berry Boss bold – A gorgeous deep berry shade with cool undertones, I think this shade would work on most skin tones and is a great step into the deeper shades if you’re a little worried dabble in dark shades. I am convinced this is a dupe for MAC rebel!

Fiery Fuschia bold – This is a perfect example of a BOLD shade, an opaque satin true fuschia shade mixes of warm pink and purple that again works on most skin tones. The lasting power on this is amazing and out of all the shades this faded the most evenly into a pink lip stain rather than a ring around the lips.

Orange Danger bold – This is another great example of the bold formula Maybelline has to offer it is an opaque true orange shade (no coral hues at all!) Orange Danger screams summer to me, an easy shade to throw on for a braai or even for a day around the pool. It’s the type of shade you can wear with a minimal make up look of just mascara, your lips will do all the talking with this bright vibrant shade!

The Maybelline ColorSensational lipsticks retail for R135 at Clicks and Dischem stores, will you be picking up any of these shades?
