The Gel Primer Pt 3

Here we are back with the 3rd post from my primer series. Have you seen Part 1 and Part 2? Today we are talking about gel primers why I love them and my top 3.

Gel primers are generally for achieving a matte base which means they’re targeted at oily skin. The aim is to create a smooth, matte canvas before foundation. I have mentioned I have combo to dehydrated and I still find a huge space in my foundation routine for these bad boys, I would actually go as far as saying these are my favourite primer formula’s.

  1. L’oreal Infallible Mattifying Base (+-R150) – This is a dupe for the Smash Box Photo Finish primer! The two smell a like have the same effect and consistency. The gel is silky and glides onto the skin perfectly it automatically covers the pores and smooths the face for an even foundation application. Use this and I promise you, your foundation will not move all day! If you’re face is dry then I suggest making sure you’ve used moisturiser before hand and only apply it where your foundation usually disappears the most which for me is definitely my nose and chin.
  2. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer (R395) – As mentioned above, the L’oreal Infallible Mattifying is a dupe for this favourite. This is again one that I reach for often, gel consistency are definitely my go to if I know I need my foundation to last long. I don’t find this drys my skin out at all, it leaves my face very silky and smooth.
  3. Benefit Porefessional Matte Rescue (R445) –

My love for this primer is never ending! Hayls kindly gave this to me and I am honestly over the moon that she gave it to me. Its most definitely my go to when I know I’m having a long day and need my foundation to stay put. The consistency is gel like but unlike the other two above this primer has a tingly effect and I find that it is quite hydrating and my foundation does not move, all day! Just have a look at the pictures below this is after 9 and a half hours of wear, they speak for themselves:

You can see that the foundation is still in tact although there is redness around my nose from blowing it throughout the day I am super impressed with the longevity it gives my foundation. If you ever want to treat yourself and have combo to oily skin I highly recommend this one!

Have you tried any of these primers? Which are your favourites?
