Avene Hydrance Optimale Serum + Perfector review

As with all Avene products the Hydrance Optimale Serum is such a winner. The Hydrance serum is essentially a product that can be used alone or in conjunction with your skincare routine to bump up the hydration.

Even thought I have combination skin with an oily T-zone the Hydrance serum does not increase the oiliness – I think this is the misconception when it comes to combo skin that there is no need to use hydrating products however that is completely incorrect. Hydrating products that are lightweight can work wonders on combination skin if I look at just my forehead for example which is one of the places I get oily, when I don’t use hydrating products I can start to see fine lines but if I have been using a hydrating product be it a mask or serum these fine lines are not visible reason being they’re plumped up and hydrated – and aren’t deep crevices yet 😉

The Avene Hydrance serum is extremely lightweight and sinks straight into the skin without leaving any sort of slip to the face which means its perfect to apply in the morning before foundation. Of course the main ingredient in the serum is Avène Thermal Spring water which is why it works so well at moisturising and hydrating the skin.

Next up from the Hydrance range is the new Skin Perfector, this is such an interesting product it is similar to a CC cream in thats main purpose is to correct skin imprefections to give your face a more even tone but what makes the Avene Skin Perfector different is that it adapts to your skin. It is only available in two ‘textures’ light for normal to combination skin and rich for dry skin, nothing to do with shades just about skin type.

When I first tried this product I was like whoa this is way too orange and won’t suit me however I was so adamant to make it work for me as I absolutely love the idea of wearing something on my face during the day that is hydrating, lightweight and has an SPF, especially for those weekends when you’re just chilling and not too fussed.

I then tried to use the Hydrance Skin Perfector as a primer underneath a light foundation this worked amazingly well and funnily enough I didn’t get shinny from layering the two. I then decided to have a little read about the product (I mean really I totes should of done this before hand!) and it all clicked! I had been using the product wrong the whole time – due to the composition of the skin perfector, before applying it directly to your face it needs to be warmed up between your fingers this activates the mineral pigments so that it applies evenly *penny drop*

Since I now know how to use it properly I have absolutely been loving this product for a lightweight even tone on my usual pigmented face. I also love to layer this as a primer for days when I want a little extra coverage or if I’m having a breakout.
